Therapy FAQs

Do you accept insurance?
We do not participate in network with any health care plans or accept payment directly from insurance companies. We provide invoices to submit for out-of-network claims.

What is the No Surprises Act?
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Learn more about the “No Surprises Act” here.

Do you prescribe psychiatric medications?
No, we do not currently have any prescribers on our team.

Can you provide services if I travel, move, or live out of state?
Most of our therapists are authorized by the Authority to Practice Interjurisdictional Telepsychology (APIT) and PSYPACT to legally and ethically conduct telepsychology across state lines. This supports the continuity of treatment when, for example, the client travels, relocates, or attends college in another state. How long are the sessions?
Most individual therapy sessions are 45 minutes in length. At times, 30-minute sessions are offered if more appropriate. Parent, couples, and family sessions are typically 60 minutes long. The initial evaluation is 75 minutes long in order to allow for essential preliminary information to be collected in addition to establishing a connection and providing feedback.

What is the fee range?
Fees are determined based on the therapist’s experience level and length of the client’s sessions. Please call or email us for more information.

How frequently do we meet?
Most sessions will be conducted weekly, especially in the earlier stages of the treatment. A different frequency may be determined by your therapist based on your specific presentation and needs. For child therapy, we value parental involvement in treatment and meetings are scheduled as clinically and developmentally indicated.

How long does treatment typically last?
This will depend on the type of treatment, the client’s presenting concerns and goals, and the interventions used. Participation level and consistency are also important in determining treatment duration. Shorter term treatments are typically 3-6 months but some targeted treatments may be completed sooner. Many treatments continue for one year or more when the client is working on long held patterns, adjustment-related problems, and multi-factor presentations.

How does your referral/matching process work?
We give careful consideration and attention to each referral, and a Partner in the practice oversees all assignments. In addition to client/therapist availability, we match therapists based on the client’s age, the type of treatment needed or requested, and on the skills and specialized experience required to treat the presenting concerns. We strive for the best fit between you and your therapist and will offer suggestions for outside referrals if we are not able to provide that for you.

What can I expect to happen during the initial evaluation?
Clients will typically complete selected assessment measures in advance as well as informational forms in our patient portal. Initial evaluation sessions are 75 minutes long for all referrals. During this time the therapist will meet with adult clients, couples, or parents in order to establish rapport, learn about current concerns, clinically assess likely diagnoses and treatment requirements, and offer preliminary feedback. For child clients, the therapist will typically first meet individually with the parents and then have a few sessions with the child before sharing treatment recommendations. For older adolescents, the initial meeting may include individual time with the teen or together with the parents, depending on the presenting issues and stated preferences. This will be discussed when scheduling the appointment.

Do you use electronic medical records with patient portals?
Yes, we have a HIPAA compliant privacy secure platform (CounSol) to hold all of the data including billing information as well as other features. Invoices may be downloaded by the client for submission to their insurance provider. The client will be informed as to how to set up their unique portal.
